Homecoming Surprise
|
My sophomore year I worked alongside my fellow officers and commissioners throughout the year. October creeped around the corner and next thing we knew, it was Homecoming season. We had been through arguments over the shirt color and design, we worked together to decorate our section, spent countless hours choreographing and helping our class learn the skit, doing our backdrop, hyping up our sections, and last but not least, having fun. The funny part was, I was so tired from putting in so much time and effort for this week to happen that I wasn't photographed with the trophy and the rest of my class. Where was I you may ask? I was standing in line to get a soda and did not even know we had won homecoming as a sophomore class. Usually the seniors win, so for my class and I this was a huge accomplishment and we were all so proud of the hard work we put in. We still joke about how I was so tired I missed the photo!
The Unpredictability of Life
There are many times in life where things will not always go according to a plan. There will be many more things that you never expected. For me personally, I never thought I would be sitting in a doctor's office hearing the words, "You have cancer". These three simple words were life changing. This obviously made me appreciate life even more, even though I knew I would be fine, it is still quite the shocker. What I learned through this was that I wanted to go into the medical field, and I hope one day to make a difference in one person's life and comfort them through their difficult times. This also caused me to take a different perspective on life and realize that the leadership class was my family and was always there for me. They made tie dye shirts with the cancer colors when we did the Relay for Life walk; they successfully surprised me and made me tear up. This was the moment that I knew all these people would be there for me no matter what and would be my closest friends through my high school journey.
